The European Union, which was originally created to improve economic cooperation between its member countries, has gradually broadened its objectives. Among the many objectives that it pursues today are the promotion of the educational mobility of individuals and groups, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion and equity, excellence, creativity and innovation at the level of organisations and policies through lifelong learning, and the educational, professional and personal development of individuals, mainly in four areas: education and training, youth and sport. All this both within Europe and beyond its territory, thus contributing to sustainable growth, quality employment and social cohesion, as well as to boosting innovation and strengthening European identity, active citizenship and participation in democratic life. This is what it proposes through the Erasmus+ programme, which has a budget of 28 billion euros for the period 2021-2027.
